The B-17F "Lak-a-Nookie". This
aircraft returned to the US in November 1943 and was retired from USAAF
service in November 1945 after having served as a trainer in Arizona.
According to writer Michael Claringbould, who identified this plane,
the picture was taken in Port Moresby. He wrote "The airstrip to the
left of the photo was behind the twon and was called Kila Drome or
3-Mile. to the far right is the entrance to Bootless bay. The clearing
to the mid right of the photo is the 7-Mile/ Wards Drome complex".
