J. "KEN'S MEN"

The name "Ken's Men" for the 43rd Bombardment Group is said to have been suggested by news correspondents who were looking for a counterpart to "White's Men," a name frequently used in referring to the 90th Bombardment Group. The two organizations worked together on many missions in the South Pacific area, and a very definite rivalry developed between the two groups and their assigned squadrons. According to documents found in the history of the 43rd Group, the name "Ken's Men" is derived from: the first part of the last name of Lieutenant General George C. Kenny, Commanding General, Allied Air Forces and Fifth Air Force; the first name of Brigadier General Kenneth Walker, Commanding General of the V Bomber Command, who was lost in action wen he accompanied the Group on a mission to Rabaul; and the first name of Major Kenneth D. McCullar, an outstanding member of the 43rd Bombardment Group.
