I just finished Old 666. Great story of a bunch of true American flying heroes and the dedicated ground crews who kept them flying despite poor food, air raids, and disease. As an amateur military historian I am convinced that the war against the Japanese Empire was won in the South Pacific by bleeding their navy, army and aviators of the cream of their top warriors. Two great books by Eric Bergerud, Touched With Fire and Fire In The Sky plus other books like 666 seem to point me in that direction. Clash Of Carriers points out quite clearly the after the South Pacific their aviators did not have the experience or flight time to stay competitive with the US aviation assets and pilots.

My dad, Arthur W. "Oley" or "Art" Olofson, was assigned to the 43 BGp as B-24 copilot, Jul-Dec 44; and to the 43 BGp as B-24 pilot, Jan-Apr 45. I do not know the tail number; but would love to find out. He passed away in Nov 2013. I chanced upon your site and found his assignment information on his Form 66 (Officer's, Warrant Officer's and Flight Officer's Qualification Record). I give a HUGE SALUTE to his WWII comrades in arms.

My father, Warren D Killion was in the 403 squadron.
He passed away in 1980 and never spoke to me about his time during WWII. I would enjoy hearing from anyone who has info about him.

Searching for any info on my father, George T Kisel. He served in the 403rd squadron, I believe in Owi, New Guinea. Was injured there and spent 8 months in the hospital in Colorado. Thank you.

My father-in-law Elmer J Schwalbach was a gunner on the Barbara Jean 65th Bomb Group. . Left the plane in May of 45 and landed in San Fran the day Germany surrendered. Owi Island and other areas. He enjoyed looking at these pictures and bringing back memories. He is still with us.
